Special Testing

We develop complete testing and measurement setups (test rigs) tailored to client requirements. The service is provided comprehensively, from design and engineering, through manufacturing and assembly, to execution. We prepare test reports and deliver them to the client. Special tests are typically accompanied by measurements of mechanical or physical quantities (displacement, strain, acceleration, force, pressure, temperature, flow rate, etc.) or combined with the use of high-speed cameras to visualise fast processes.

Example of developed testing equipment for:

  • internal combustion engine testing – measurement of losses, measurement of lubrication system parameters, testing of wear of engine components temperature range: +30 to +150 °C, speed range: up to 10,000 rpm
  • testing of gearbox stress under load
  • gear testing – measurement of gear transmission error
radiation characteristics of infrared (IR) emitters (measurement of heat flux density

Visualisation of Fast Processes

Fast processes can be captured using a high-speed camera. Slow-motion video recordings often reveal details that are difficult to detect using other methods. With the help of a high-speed camera, we can better understand the observed phenomena.

Using image analysis and specialised software, it is possible to determine the kinematics of moving parts, vibration frequency, etc.

High-speed camera parameters

  • Resolution: 800 × 600 px
  • Frame rate: 33,000 fps, up to 1,000 fps at full resolution.

Examples of high-speed camera applications:

  • identification of material failure criteria
  • recording of valve kinematics in cylinder heads under operating conditions
  • recording of valve spring kinematics under operating conditions
  • recording of timing chain kinematics in internal combustion engines
  • recording of lubrication processes and oil spray in internal combustion engines
  • measurement of natural frequencies and vibration amplitudes of a tubular beam in fluid

Measurements Outside the Laboratory

We provide measurement services not only in our own laboratory, but also at the client’s site, for example within their operations or on moving vehicles.

Examples of measurements outside the laboratory:

  • vibration measurement of a robotic workstation
  • vibration measurement of a winding machine for the production of composite structures
  • measurement of forces transmitted to the vehicle body during crash testing
  • measurement of forces during loading of an automotive jack on the client’s test rig
  • measurement of shaft displacement in a gearbox on the client’s test rig

X-STREAM720P SPECIFICATION SHEET

The IDT X-Stream Cameras offer continuous frame streaming via the PCI Express® 2.0 x4 interface with a sustained transfer speed of 1.75 GB/sec. This flexible design has been implemented around two CMOS sensors with Global Shutter: the 720p delivering over 1,700 fps at full resolution (1280×720 pixels) and 1440p delivering over 400 fps at full resolution (2560×1440 pixels). Advanced features include Frame to frame Auto-exposure and Motion Trigger and Double-exposure for PIV users. The especially tuned Motion Monitor application operates the cameras in the Windows, Linux or Mac OSX environments, with features that include always-on live, record while saving and on-demand playback from disk. The cameras are especially suited for a variety of uses ranging from industrial and packaging inspection, microscopy, media/cine including special effects, traffic control and surveillance.
